Top 10 People To Know In A Senior Community

If your loved one is living in a senior community, these are the key people at the community who can can provide care, information, and reassurance.

1. Get to know your Activity Director. This lively person will be working with your loved daily and will ensure that residents are busy and enjoying their new home.

2. Receptionists usually know everybody and everything there is to know about the community. Because they are usually the first person a resident meets, and because they stay in the ‘hub’ of resident life, they are considered the ‘eyes’ and ‘ears’ of the community.

3. The Personal Care Assistants who take care of the residents’ personal needs are very important. They will attend to resident needs daily and will notice any changes that warrant further attention by the staff.

4. The Director of Nursing or Resident Service Director is in charge of the resident’s care plan and overseeing the caregiving personnel.

5. The Director or General Manager of the community oversees all staff and is the top decision-maker. They can answer any questions about community policies or procedures.

6. Food is at the top of anyone’s list! Get to know the Dining Services Director, check the menu regularly, and make sure your loved one eats a properly balanced meal.

7. Getting to know your Maintenance Personnel will give you the support you need when a lightbulb needs changing or if any safety concerns need attention.

8. Many communities have regularly scheduled Volunteer Groups who visit. Find out who visits and how they may give extra attention to residents by checking the activity calendar.

9. Housekeepers are in your loved one’s home at least once a week and keep the entire community looking its best.

10. Know a roommate’s and/or neighbors’ families and responsible party. They can be helpful support during the first weeks after move-in and added advocates for your loved one.
